I got this off a guy on Craigslist for $75 a few months back. It was a present for my girlfriend. All of the glue in the leg joints had dried out and the legs were wobbly, and the entire thing was painted with thick, black paint – even the glass balls on the claw feet.
The paint was all stripped. The top was stained with Golden Oak and finished in General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. The bottom was stained in Ebony and finished with three coats of wipe-on polyurethane. The leg joints were all reglued. For one that I could not get apart, I had to drill a hole through one of the tenons from the bottom so I could inject glue through that hole and into the joint. The hole was drilled in a part of the tenon that was hidden inside the mortise of the leg, so there was no need to patch the hole afterwards. Sorry, there is a picture limit or I would have included images of that process as well!
Hope you enjoy, and thanks for looking. The last image is what the stool originally looked like.
