This is the other half of the Schefflera log. (See Turning Schefflera). The results are completely different. This piece was sitting outside gathering some “character”. It seems a little grotesque to me but interesting (like a car wreck). This piece wasn’t any easier to finish. After sanding to 400 grit and putting a couple of coats of lacquer, scratches were quite evident and like the first piece, I resorted to a scraper to clean up the piece and re-lacquer with a spray on semigloss.
I think I’ll go back to “real wood” for a while.

I like this piece, don’t give up just because it’s hard. That’s what makes it worthwhile doing. keep up the good work.

Great turning. Love all the voids and live edges. The extra work was well worth it.

Keep it up.
