This plate is from a fallen Willow Oak tree that came down last year. So far I’ve found willow oak turns and dries better than white oak. (less cracking) The plate is not as deep as I intended because of some nasty inner bark stuff within the wood. I cant remember if I was close to a crotch when I was sawing the wood, but that’s what it looked like. I really liked the wavy grain pattern with the spalting lines.

Nice looking plate, great grain pattern. You should make a set from the walnut logs. Also, we need to get a wood burning pen to sign our stuff. We shall sign “The Wood Forge”!!
