BODY OF THE “STICK” IS FROM POPLAR AND THE RAISED NUMBERS AND EMBEDDED MEASURING LINES ARE FROM WALNUT. HER NAME PLATE AT THE TOP IS ALSO FROM WALNUT.

THIS WAS ONE OF HER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM GRANDPA THAT I MADE WITH SANTA.

ALTHOUGH SHE REALLY DOESN’T UNDERSTAND THIS YET, I AM HOPING THAT AS SHE GETS OLDER,SHE’LL APPRECIATE IT MORE.

Nice job Grandpa!
I’m sure she will treasure it.
Of course you will have to build one each of your grandchildren so I hope you kept good notes! :)

Very nicely done.

I used the back of my home office door as a measuring stick. I remember how I helped to stand my wobbly granddaughter up for her first measurement. Once she became aware of the practice, she’d come in the house and run to the door to check-in. Now, she’ll be starting college next year, and she still goes to that door and marks her height. I can’t bring myself to paint that door :)

Your going to have a great time with that measuring stick.

Clem,
Believe it or not but I asked the other 3 grandkids and received 3 No’s . . . I’ll recover from the rejection, someday!

JayCee,

Thanks for the nice words. Loved your story too. Guess you’ll be buying a replacement door when & if you ever move.

Thanks Charles.

Wife saw a pic in a magazine and asked; “Can you make something like this?” Who could say No?!?
