This was my very first venture into woodworking 2 1/2 years ago. She’s not very pretty to look at, and I’m know there’s been hundreds of mallets on here, way better than this, but I thought I’d put it up to show off cross grain face idea.
It’s crappy big box store oak, with a a pine crossgrain face. I use it for assembly as the endgrain is good for anything that need a good firm knock. The pine face is sacrificial for when you don’t was to damage the project. It’s on it’s 3rd face now, when it gets too beat up I plane it down flat and use it again until it’s too thin then I shave it off and glue on a new one.

Hey, don’t ‘knock it’ (pun intended). :) I like your pine face idea, and I’m sure there are many people on here who will decide to incorporate it in their projects.

Interesting idea. One that has worked for 2 1/2 years and had to be let us call it adjusted. Nice work.

May not be the prettiest girl on the dance floor, but she will turn a head or two. :)
