Kinetic Marble Gadget--prototype

Here is a kinetic marble gadget I’ve been working on. I hope to use it as a prototype and R&D for a couple more I need to make. (Grand kids, you know!) It took quite a bit of tinkering and tweaking it to get the “valve” opening right, the ramp angle right (10 degrees finally) and the arm balanced just so. And the hole for the marble to drop out of just so so in order to keep more than one marble dropping at a time. I think I will use two uprights on the final version with the arm and the ramp fastened between the uprights. This one is oak with a laminate flooring catch tray. Those laminate flooring scraps come in mighty handy, but they are hard to get glue to stick very good. I sand the laminate off where the glue surfaces meet and that is a royal pain and very hard on the sanding belts. Anyway, thanks for looking and if anyone wants to build one I’ll give you my dimensions and specs. There is a video here:

Very mesmerizing and pleasing clacks and thumps.
Sorry for the video quality, it’s just an iphone, don’t have my Sony Handicam here with me today.

It looks like a great gadget and once you have finished the final version your Grandchildren will love them. Nice work and very creative.
