So I just finished this box. I didn’t do any woodworking over the fall and winter so it was fun to get back into it. This box is for my cousin who likes Mickey Mouse. I had a much easier time shaping this box than I did with my first one. I used 30 grit planing sandpaper on my benchtop sander and it went much faster. I love Claro Walnut. The Mickey Mouse is Quilted Maple and Ebony.

Lori, I like the shape, and the Mickey inside was fun to see. The screw heads seem a bit intrusive. Is there some reason you did not plug those holes? The walnut and the finish on your project are beautiful. Nice work. Keep boxing and keep posting.

There are not actually screw, just brass rods. The picture makes it hard to tell. I kind of like the contrast is why I didn’t plug them. I may try a different kind of rod in the future, or I may plug the holes. Only my second box so I am learning as I go.

Really great box! I’m a big fan of claro as well. The Mickey looks absolutely seamless. Great job all around.
