This is was one of my first real woodworking projects, and to a large extent the one that caused me to “catch the bug”, so to speak. End grain butcher block cutting board a la the Wood Whisperer video
I mail ordered the wood from Home Depot, several lengths of 1×2 maple, cherry and mahogony. About all I had at the time as far as tools was a crappy Harbor Freight table saw, a palm sander, a crappy old hand-me-down router, and a card scraper. As a result, getting the thing flat was a bit of a challenge!
We still use it almost daily as our bread cutting board.
Also in the picture is a larger, edge grain board (also challenging, though since it wasn’t end-grain, I took it to a local shop to have it planed!), that I made as a wedding gift.
