This is a Murphy Wall bed that was completed in March 2010. This is a style that I build often. I call it the Excalibur. The finish on this one is a custom match for a customer. Actually they sent me a sample with the formula. They had 2 coats of Fruitwood and two coats of Pickled Oak both from Minwax Oct 13 07:26:23 2008#Colors. With a little experimenting it was found that with a little heaver application one coat of each matched perfectly. Here is an email from the customer after they received their bed:
“Chris; Our Murphy bed made it OK! And it looks great…. We have it set up and it looks great with the other furniture in the room. Your craftsman ship is very good and thank you for all of the work you did to match the color. I will definitely recommend you to others that we know. Brenda”
I love it when I get positive feedback from a customer.
One thing to note when doing whitewash on oak, use white oak and not red oak. Red oak will turn out with a pink tint. On a past project I had to shoot a finished red oak cabinet with a green wash coat to pull the red out.
Materials: White oak, CAB murphy bed mechanism
Finish: Fruitwood stain coat, Pickled Oak stain coat, 2 coats Pre-Cat. Lacquer
