Here’s my very first project.

no, it’s not some incredible piece of art that some people seem to be able to create. It’s a simple utilitarian shelf built using nothing more than a compound miter saw and a drill. I bought the pine at the Home Depot in the widths I needed. there are no dados, no rabbets, just a bunch of simple butt joints. Some wood putty to fill the screw holes and finished with white latex paint. I did have to add a little brace to keep that upper shelf from sagging due to the weight of the tapes.

The size was a recommendation of my wife’s. She didn’t want anything overwhelming in the living room, but we did need somewhere to store all of these Disney movies. This holds approx 60 tapes and is still in use.

I can relate. You did a good job filling the need and now you have the family asking for furniture. Great job.

It’s a functional piece. Great project!

Form vs. Function. Very nice and serves a great purpose!
