I’ve made several cutting boards. Unfortunately I only have a couple pictures of them. I’ve made the smaller one (11”x7.5”x1.5”) as a cheese board. I’ve found a source for some chees knife blades where I can turn some matching handles and would like to try that soon.
The heart shaped board was a special order for one of the girls at work. She always gets her mom gifts with a heart theme, so she asked if I could make a cutting borad for her. I used one of my full size boards (11”x15”x1.5”) to make this one. I’m pretty happy with the way it came out and so was my friend and her mom (who thought it was a store bought gift!).
Both boards are made with maple and walnut. I used mineral oil as a finish, applying one coat every day for a week.

You just can’t beat maple and walnut for cutting boards. Nice!

Beautiful boards Darryl, I like the wood combination and the heart shape.
I have to ask, I want to try to make some cutting boards and would like to use exotic wood kind of in the same manner you do…......... is it side grain or face grain up? Also, I have seen many boards made using “end grain” , what are the pro’s and con’s of the different grains?
Tks …........

Thanks Gene.
I haven’t made any endgrain cutting boards, so I can’t make a fair comparison. BUT from what I hear the endgrain cutting boards are supposed to be more durable.
the boards I have made all have edge grain exposed.
hope that helps.
