Turned maple box

Thi smal box is turned from a end of a shoe last blank, picture 4 show what the maple blanks look like, the pictures 5 and 6 show the lathe and process. I will attach a link to show the factory where these came from, I know the blank has not been in the factory for 45 yrs. but do not know it’s true age. The walnut is from a dismantled organ marked 1897. http://www.myhartt.com/history/shoe_boot.htm

Box is 4” tall 3” diameter.

After studying mechanical engineering I love old machines and mechanisms and this post is very interesting because of that. As for the box it is quite a lovely and practical piece and also has some nice details.
