My First Coffee Table Build

Good morning everyone!

Wanted to share a project I built a little over a year ago!

This was my first big project as a builder- as in – bigger than a “few cuts for shelves” kind of project! I think this was a tipping point for me finding a true hobby in woodworking.

I found a cool yet simple design from Ana White and was off to the races with a new set of Ryobi Power Tools. This project took a bit of planning, three days of work (could do it much faster now!), and was a ton of fun.

The first photos are the final product, with the next set showing a progression backwards of how it went from nice clean redwood to oxidized redwood – helluva process!

I’d do quite a few things differently aesthetically if I could redo it, but I’m very happy with how it looks.

No video for this one, but thanks for checking it out! If you’d be so kind as to check out my new YouTube DIY Channel, you can do so by clicking on the link – I’m new and smaller but almost at 300 subs – that’s not bad right??

Thanks!

Thanks @pottz – the oxidization thing was great – definitely something I’ll continue to use in the future for the right project

Great job. It starts with a coffee table, and ends with thousands of dollars in tools lol. It’s a great hobby!

Thanks @RobNPHX – isn’t it weird how it starts with one thing and you have very little issue building it yet somehow over the course of the next 12 months you spend another $2500 on additional tools and you still feel helpless?

Thanks @woodworm – yea part of my issue with my final product was how the poly took way from the weather look. In hindsight I should have used the oxidization coupled with a watery grey stain to give it a true beach vibe, then sand it down, then potentially just leave it at that. At most, maybe use one coat of a matte finish for just a bit of protection.

@Swirt – funny you say that (I totally agree) – but that was my dad’s first reaction – he almost couldn’t believe it.

Incredible build sir. I love the Ana White movement. She has her distractors but I’d love to see the count of how many she has introduced to woodworking.
