Heirloom Tile Box

I’ve made several of these boxes but this one will stay in our house (I think LOL). I made it from plans I purchased from Wood magazine (plan #MD-00525). It is white oak with a Motawi tile. The tile is entitled Lotus – Olive. I purchased the hardware from Schlabaugh & Sons, the designers of this project. The finish is a mixture of Trans Tint dye, shellac and lacquer.

Thanks for looking!

Love this. I made the woodsmith clock withMotawi tile in it. The tile cost more than the wood! they are very nice tiles.

Beautiful top motive. At first I thought it is stained glass.

I like it. The wood works quite well with the tile color. The design/proportions are interesting too: squat, solid, almost like an old bank building. Gives it an air of strength and permanence, I think.

Very nice. The design sort of reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs.

Those tiles are nice but totally different style. Perhaps suited for different projects.
