Jo-Ping’s bookshelf

This is only the second piece I have made for someone outside my family. This bookshelf was made as barter for tutoring for my daughter. The tutor is a friend of my wife and she gave me the dimensions for the shelves and in general what she wanted but left the design to me. The design is a little different for me but it is still mostly straight lines.

52 in W x 32in H
Top is single board Walnut
Case is Cherry
Base is Ash dyed Black
Finished with Wipe on Poly

It is a beautiful piece. I’m curious about how close together the shelves are… is there a special reason she wanted them that way?

The compartments are 13in x 4.5 in. She wanted a shelf for binders. I think she was originally thinking a plywood box but I think if it is worth doing its worth over doing.
