Last spring i grabbed some small cherry logs from my parents wood pile and resawed them for small projects and kept them in my basement to dry out. I cut a couple of small piece roughly 2-1/2 by 6 with one edge left natural, and on one of them I routed out a shallow spot and added a 3-1/2×1-1/2×1/2 scrap of walnut. On the other I left the cherry flat and added a 1/4” square by 3-1/2 piece for the front and a 3-1/2×1-1/2×1/2 walnut for the back. Finished them off with a couple coats of shellac.
