My wife likes to read in our sunny front room. So she asked me to find her an Asian styled daybed for the room. But not finding anything to suit her fancy at a furniture store or on the net, I decided to draw up plans for a twin bed sized daybed.
My plans are based on a photo of an Asian looking park bench that we found on the net. The bench has a beam across the back & “arm rests” that are upswept on the ends with a, sort of, Oriental look.
The bed frame is a more typical twin bed construction. The back beam, the armrests & the legs are made from 2X6s, 2X8s, 1X6s & 1X8s that were laminated together. I made templates for the sweeping curves. Simple 1X5 stock was used for the splats.
Dowels were used to join the end assemblies. And pocket screws were used for the back frame & splats assembly.
Candlelight gel stain followed by a poly topcoat was used for a finish.
The wife is happy… for a little while longer.
