Dear fellows,

On April 2nd, 2010 I just finished this second feature for the god Poseidon, the king of the seas according to the Greek mythology. This time I intended to endow him with a more humanized face and I also performed some changes in his hair and beard.

I remind you that I had previously made a Mask of Poseidon which was posted here on Jan 06, 2010, showing a more grotesque feature.

It was carved on a 1 3/8 inch thick board of Brazilian “pau marfim” (Balfourodendron riedelianum) that was affixed on a mitred-jointed panel made of true Rio-rosewood (Dalbergia nigra).

The mask dimensions: 12” high, 9” wide
The panel dimensions: 18” high, 15” wide

Regards,

Dilo

That’s really nice. Was this for a commission, or…?

im very impressed with this work…lots of time to get it to look so smooth…since you have so to say come out of the closet with your wood work…where has it gone and where is it going….
