Not a project but I thought you would be interested…

I have been looking for a good air compressor for a while and saw one on Craigslist Craftsman Pro. 6 HP 33 Gallon 120 like new $175… good sounding deal so I went to town to check it out. The lady that I met lost her husband a while ago and he had a garage full of woodworking machines! we talked for a while and she let me look around there was a lot of things all in excellent condition she asked what I would like… so I picked just things I need now not wants… So I got the compressor a set of Sheffield Marples chisels (all perfect)... A nice set of forstner bits and a very nice 6” porter cable sander. I asked her what she would wan for all the tools and she said how about $225! I told her it was worth a good bit more and she said OK $240 and would not take more! as I filled the back of my excursion she found a box with unopened spray gun pinner air wrench torque wrench die grinder and sander ALL Unopened! she said this goes to the compressor right I said yes those are air tools and she insisted I take them! Then she said would you like this and pulled out a maple burl slab that is 2.5” thick 36” long and 18” tall with a live edge!!!! I said of course I would like that! she would not take any more money!
Any one know what a slab like that is worth?
As I left I told her some prices she should ask for the rest of the things. I may go back this week for some more either way I am making her a gift!
Any Jocks around Reno looking for a table saw or let me know she has a nice Ryobi BT3000 with router built-in.

Nice haul!!! Be careful of that Husky grinder/sander with no guard!! I saw a disk on one come apart end up in a guys arm pit to the bone, nasty.

Great find
To me the good thing to learn from this story, you’re actually helping her to know the most appropriate price she ought to ask & get and She is very generous indeed!
I appreciate what you’ve done & be doing.

Once you get those chisels sharpened, they will do you well. I have a set that has done very well for me. The only thing I didn’t like was the cheesy blue plastic handles. I cut those off and turned my own handles for mine.

Im with woodworm you are a stand up guy. Wood workers are a different bread the bible said that men should take care of widos and single mothers. Thanks for helping her and you might see if she needs any help around the house.

Same this happened to my dad when I was a kid. The ladies husband passed away and the gal thought my dad was a nice guy so she sold him the whole lot. I swear we filled the entire carport closet from that lady. That is probably when I started liking tools.

Great find on the maple, thats a nice piece, would make a great wall table. I’d say it’s worth at least $100.00
I’m not a crapsman, oops, craftsman fan, but if they serve your needs, then thats what will count. You are as the others said, a stand up guy, and a gift for her is a great idea.
