I’m building 3 of these mallets. I have always wanted one and until Recently I only had cheap chisels. I finally broke down and purchased a nice set of wooden handle chisel’s. I had to make one, being the mallets cost $40.00 for a basic mallet. Were wood workers right? Here are some pics and my notes of trying to make this 3 piece head and tapered handle. Two are from Black Walnut with Rock Maple plugs and one is Purple Heart laminated with Rock Maple. Comment’s are improvement ideas always welcome. Back to the backyard remodel, deadline is 55 days and counting.

Ken, awesome job, I love the way you design it before making it. I need to work on that a little more. Most of the time i just wing it. Looks superb.

I like your designs. I didn’t have the $50 I needed to purchase the one I wanted, so, like you, I had to make my own out of solid red oak. However, mine is a little more primitive-looking .. Your work looks good!

I like your philosophy on life. Going to take a while to check out the site. Looks like many more talented wood workers than me here. I am just a jackleg wood butcherer. Mallets are too pretty to use—a work of art !
