I made these Purpleheart and Maple barettes for my wife for Valentines Day, and am just getting around to photographing them now. They were pretty simple to make but extremely well received! She loves barettes and her favorite color is purple so I have to admit it was a pretty easy win. :)

They are about 4 1/2 to 5 inches long and all I did was add spring hair clip to the back with hot glue. I didn’t take any photos of the clip, sorry about that but I got them at a local craft store and they look basically like this.

Barette Clips

For what it’s worth, the hot glue worked well on 2 out of 3 of them. I needed to redo the third one with hot glue, but it seems to be holding fine now.

Thanks to everyone for the great comments, this was project was meant to be quick and use those small scraps of wood that I just can’t seem to throw out. Glad you all liked it.

Seer: Epoxy is a good idea. I bet it would be a much better solution. I’m sure I’ll be making more of these in future and will definitely try that.

Autumn: I’m glad I could help!

I think these are just wonderful & I can see why your wife loves them. Very contemporary & with the colors & design, very noticable. She will get many comments on them. (go with the epoxy)

Thanks for all of the great comments on this project. I will indeed be going with epoxy on the next round of these and should the hot glue fail again, I will be replacing with epoxy.
