I saw this slice of Butternut at a wood carvers show and it sort of talked to me. So I bought it and by the end of the weekend I had made this bench along with trying a few new things like through tenons with a chisel and trying to figure out how to finish something with a live edge. I wound up using that clear bar coat epoxy system. It filled up that hole nicely and you can actually see through it. I also noticed later that I had wedged it the wrong way in the tenon. The wedge should apply pressure with the grain so it won’t try to split. It didn’t, but now I know.

Very nice. Butternut is one of my favorite woods. I like the natural edges of your bench.
