This is my first attempt at a cutting board. A friend gave me some rift sawn oak(8/4) and I had some walnut and maple hanging around looking for its purpose. The board is 14” x 16” x 1 3/4”. I put a 3/8” roundover all the way around on both sides. I decided not to put a channel around it as I don’t plan on carving on it! I am pleased with how it turned out and cant wait to start using it.

Very nice board, however I would be careful with oak in cutting boards, unless it is white oak. Most Oak is very porous and can be a source of bacteria. The majority of the “cutting board guru’s” steer clear of porous woods for this very reason.

Keep up the good work, as you have an eye for nice designs.

Thanks for the compliments recycle1943 and Gator. Gator, it is actually white oak and I had heard that about certain woods for cutting boards. Being an ex-chef I am familiar with proper care and cleaning of wooden cutting boards and didn’t want to take a chance of using any woods that would not be safe.

Have your say...
