Project Information
My brother decided to purchase a new 65 inch tv which made his current stand too small. He asked if I'd make them something like they'd seen a picture of and shot me a copy. He decided on Radiata Pine for the wood using an Ebony stain. I'd never used ebony before so I wasn't sure what to expect, picturing a solid black look. I was surprised at the final color though, it let a lot of the grain come through and made for a nicee project. the carcass is 3/4 pine with 1/2" ply panels. For the doors and the back I used 1/4" ply. The top and 6 adjustable shelves are all 3/4 solid pine I glued up. I finished it by spraying on (a first) medium rub pre-cat lacquer. I've typically used poly or a poly blend (BLO/mineral spirits) and wipe it on. I needed to get it done a little faster and with a 10-15 mininute dry time for lacquer I thought this'd be a great project to try it on. It really didn't take that long to get the basics of HVLP and by the end it was easier to get the spray patter I wanted. I'm sure I'll be trying it again.
Anyways, thanks for looking!
