I built this kitchen for my friends cabin on Lake Sakinaw on the Sunshine coast. Everything is solid wood except the cases, veneered curve island front and the inner gables and bottom of the island. The main bank cases are made from prefinished 5/8” birch ply edged with 1/8” solid walnut. I used the same for the drawers and used a lock shoulder joint for strength and dadoed in 1/2” birch ply for the bottoms. The client is tiling the main bank c/t with 12”x12” granite tiles and I provided 1/2”x1 3/4” solid walnut for the edges. The Island top is solid Western Maple edged with 5/8”x 2 3/8” solid walnut. The top is curved on the front side to match the curved base which I veneered. I enjoyed the build but was a little off on my estimate for the hours. I’m used to building kitchens from veneer and didn’t take into account how much more time solid wood takes.
