hello ljs – been messing with this for awhile – my oldest son made a national drum corp this year (trumpet) so i thought this was in order. he also has a hard rock band (a city divided) lead guitar – the project is made from curly maple , hard maple , and padauk. the mechanics were changed several times during the build. the idea of the t track in the post for the height adjustment was taken from bfd’s project ,http://lumberjocks.com/projects/24944 , and works great – thanks brian . the finish is linseed for now . really enjoyed making this and learned alot , made many mistakes, but it turned out ok. face is 12 1/2” X 22” . tube is 31” , if you want further dimensions send us a note – have a great day – as an entry in the summer fluidity contest i want to descibe how we used the curls of the maple to resemble the radience of the sun – the waves of heat (radiation) that enable life on our planet

Overall a very nice project.. should be passed down the years and not thrown out like a lot of the cheap store bought things available..

the sun actually was a medallion purchased to put in my sisters coffin – it has since been tatooed on my back and graced my sons stand

Wow! This looks great, but goes way beyond the looks. You obviously gave much thought and attention to the mechanical aspects of this music stand. What a beautiful piece.

Amazing work!!! Just a great one!
Hard maple makes this music stand so gorgeous! I like the “SUN” design.

I am glad you posted in the other music stand project, it gave me cause to view your projects. The closeups on this gave me some great ideas for a stand for my son, thanks for those.
I love the detail work too. The contrasting dovetails are stunning, as is the inlay. Beautiful project. Thanks for sharing.
