Simple project made from a piece of poplar. Stain with olive oil and india ink, sealed with paste wax. Hardware grinder and inked for patina.

Nice work.

I’ll have to give the ink a try. I have had trouble with olive oil becoming gummy over time, and find flax seed oil or walnut oil a better choice. My wife however coats all her woodenware with coconut oil.

Thanks, y’all. Yeah, EricTwice, to be totally honest, I often use olive oil because I have it around. I apply very thin and use it more as a carrier for the ink. I then seal with thin coats of buffed paste wax. I haven’t had a problem with it getting gummy after use on several projects, but I really need to step up to your suggestions or something penetrating like tung oil.
