I made this box for my wife’s friend. Whenever she stops in for a visit she will ask to see what new things I have been making. Almost always she ends up buying something to use as gifts for her family. Well my wife and I thought it would be nice to give her a gift. My wife said she saw the last one I made for my sis-in law, and liked the style a lot. Make one like that. OK. It’s made out of cherry and bamboo. Finished with lacquer, with a blue lining.
Approx 11’’ x 6’’ x 4 1/2’’
She more than loved it.

You are very good man, it’s good to be friend with you – you might get a present. Very nice box, I like that blue interior.

That’s a beauty Dave. I really like the way the splines do double duty…......they make the outside look great, and they hold the tray on the inside. The raised lid is super nice as well.

I’m with Roger on this one!

The corner supports are an excellent feature. I have always used full length supports, never thought about anything else.

Fine box, fine story!

Thanks Ivan.I do take care the ones that like my projects. Haha.

Roger, I have been doing this style the last few boxes and I like it. It serves two purposes.

Thanks splintergroup. The extended splines makes it look neeter that the full supports and one less step.

Thanks madsass. If you need some of that bamboo, I have plenty.

Very nice looking box and I echo previous comments about the ingenuity of using a spline as a shelf support. I think it would look better with different hinge but that is just me.

Thanks david38. You have done very well on your boxes. Maybe I can get some pointers.

Thanks Lee. My wife’s friend loved the box. I will have to tell her it made the top 3.

Thanks for the favorite Ottacat. Try using the splines as a support. Works great and they just have to be a bit deeper.

Thank you Monte. These boxes are one of my favorites.

Very nice! Like most everyone, I like the splines being used as the tray support – very clever. I also like the hinge having the ends rounded. Did you do that, or is there a source for this style of hinge?

Thanks for sharing!
