After looking at furniture stores and either not being happy with quality or blown away by price, I decided to build this out of blue pine. To darken it I used the vinegar/steel wool concoction. I used the Minwax single coat poly from Lowe’s and applied it with a foam brush. Since it’s a rustic piece I didn’t have issues others have had with brush strokes. I would highly recommend that product for rustic furniture. Overall happy with the way this came out.

Tim, that looks really great. I’ve never been a fan of blue stain pine, yours is the nicest I’ve ever seen.

Thanks BurlyBob, I like the price of it here in Colorado if you go straight to the mill. I like the red look the vinegar gave it.

This is a beautiful piece and so nicely done.

I love the old vinegar steel wool treatment on pine… it’s my favorite way to do it.

Nice cabinet!
