New TV stand saved me $1000

Saw this mid-century modern TV stand on some high end design website and I had to have it. Saw the price tag and knew I had to build it. The original design was the Nilsson by ROVE. But it was over 1000$ plus shipping and it was way too big to fit in my house. (80” long!)

So this is what I came up with. Total cost about $100. Cabinet grade plywood and tiger maple insert. Feet are turned out of some ambrosia maple I’ve had laying around for 9 months. Dimensions/scaling aren’t perfect but I don’t care. I was looking at this as an experiment in painting (I don’t paint much).

Finished with primer and spar urethane top coat. Tiger maple finished with Waterlox.

Hope you like it! I love it. Thanks for looking.

Very nice looking cabinet.

I am also a fan of modern furniture with clean lines, but one thing I don’t understand is why would a designer use real wood in a place where it will not be very visible and cover the most visible surfaces with either paint or laminate?

Have your say...
