The kit is called the Majestic. I’m not that vain. Stabilized box elder burl blanks. The kit is expensive at $35 but clearly better quality and heft that other “regular” kits. You need a 37/64” drill bit for the cap,
Which nobody on earth has already in their shop. Or store, even Rockler has to special order it.
CA finish buffed out with micromesh.

Very nice. The wood is a perfect compliment to the kit. Well done.

Pens are great gifts and sometimes we even treat ourselves with them. Sometimes, there just so darn nice you don’t want to give them up; especially when you find an unexpected pattern in the wood (rare, but it happens).

When I first started turning pens, I would buy a pen kit that required a bit I did not already have. Our local (2 hour round trip) Woodcraft regularly carries 37/64ths and most others. I have only had to special order a bit and that is because they sold out. I usually forgot if I already had a specific bit and bought another just in case so I did not have to drive for 2 hours just for the bit I forgot.

-- There are rarely any mistakes made in turning, but there are a lot of on-the-fly design modifications!
