This set is one of my favorites. Lots of research, lots of meaning to the pieces. Its about African Tribal Masks, all of the pieces are replicas of authentic masks. Each mask has its own specific significance. The meaning of each mask corresponds directly with the position it holds on the chess board. The masks are from all different tribes in Africa, the kings stand about 6” tall…pawns about 3” tall. The pawns are South African War Masks. Hand carved from solid Maple and Walnut. Chess board about 25” square also Maple and Walnut.

That is quite and unusual and beautiful chess set Jim. I love your idea of using tribal masks, especially since they are appropriate to their designations.

Fantastic, I love the details. must have taken many hours to make. I have noticed a lot of chess sets on here recently. I am feeling the need to have a go at one myself. I hope I can do as good a job as yours.

that is one of the finest and most interesting chess sets I have seen…. Love the African Mask theme… After spending 6 months in Africa I certainly appreciate the meaning behind them… very well done…

I second that degoose!
This is yet another beautiful set. Each piece is a work of art.
Where did you come up with the idea for African masks? I would love to know the meaning of the masks if you get the time. Thanks for posting.
