Turned salt box of mahogany. Finally got a tight fit on the lid. No finish.

I really like this. It’s a satisfying feeling when you get the top to fit just right, isn’t it?

Rich

It is challenging. Here is my connundrum: i like to fit the lid onto the box and finesse the junction, sand, finish etc. so it has to fit tight. This can be too tight to remove. On this box i originally hadnt intended to turn a groove below the lid but i couldnt get it back off! So when I finally do get the lid fit trick mastered it will be very satisfying. I want to try an inset lid that pops. SKILL CHALLENGE!

Nice job Ben. I always wondered if the salt would dry out the wood and change the shape, affecting the fit. Did you notice any changes after using it?

John, I don’t know the answer. I gave the box away.
