I finally got a few pics taken of my projects. This is the most recent, a wine bottle holder out of purple heart and figured maple. I just filled it recently, so I am hoping to get a picture or two up with bottles. It holds 8 bottles total: 4 on each side. The purple heart is about 1.75” thick 6” wide and about 3’ tall. Hopefully there will be more pics to come.

I like the design and the contrasting wood species.
How stable is it from side-to-side once filled to the top? If you’ve only got a couple of bottles at the top and the bottom section is empty, is it a bit touchy?

It is very stable. The purple heart actually would have stood up alone, filled of course, like a balancer. The maple piece at the bottom is just added support front to back. It doesnt waver side to side. And it only holds 7 bottles, sorry for the typo of 8, although thats easily accomplished.

Like it! id you angle the holes at all or are they just straight through at a 90 to the vertical?

Having just finished a vertical wine tower that simply uses holes for the bottle necks, I’m inclined to hate you for making yours so darned beautiful ;-)
1.75” seems like a perfect thickness. What’s the hole diameter, and … why did you use those backer pieces—out of NEED, or purely for the (very nice) look ?

Thanks for the compliments. I did not angle the holes because I wanted the 90 degree look, and I used the backer pieces for both aesthetics as well as functionality. The backer pieces allow me to use different sized bottles in this and if the necks of the bottles are too small they kind of hook onto that maple and stay in place pretty well. One of my worries in the beginning was that it might tip easily, but it’s been about a year that I’ve had it and it hasn’t had any problems.
Have your say...
