New baby due in early April ‘17. We’re having a shower, here at the house, for the lucky couple (also my daughter and our first grandchild).
We bought stuff of the registry and will do other things for them but the other day (with two days left) I suddenly decided to make a cradle. Now, I usually make stuff in cherry, oak, maple etc. For this I drove to Lowes and picked out some of the best 2×6’s I could find. Six inches as my jointer is 6”. I had a package of 7/8 sealed bearings.
One day of glue-ups, one day of flattening and assembly, and another day of sanding and finishing (3 coats of sprayed on water based poly) and it’s done. The holes on the side are made with varying sized holesaws and rounded over with a router. Just a little decoration that was quick to make.
The bearings are embedded in the uprights. My sister, who’s always on for making something on the sewing machine, and 2 day shipping for a cradle mattress from Amazon and here it is. It swings smoothly and looks pretty good for $20 in framing lumber. Oh, when I ordered the mattress I couldn’t help but get the musical mobile too!
Thanks for looking
