This project started back in Nov 2015 that i picked, from the junk pile of a sawmill, a 2” thick board, that i liked, but i had not idea what i was going to make of it.

Also about 3 weeks ago I stopped (with my friend Barboza) by a junk yard to pick up some reclaimed stainless steel to make the press to compact plastic bottles and cans as well. The press was made 100% with reclaimed material and about 95% is stainless steel.

While my friend Barboza was working on the press, i started making the table to hold it, another project made without plans, but i had one fixed measure to start with, the size of the top (91×51 cm or 35 3/4×20 inches) and under the table i needed to accommodate 3 bags for paper, plastic and metal.

Besides the top (that i still do not what specie is, i have used some jatoba and tigerwood that i had left from previous projects. Construction is very simple and i used bolts on many places. It is mounted on 2” casters to facilitate moving it around, if needed.

It took me about 15 hours and was finished with tung oil. It works great and now my recycling is much much better organized. I am reusing bags from our dogs food to collect the materials.

Here is a video of how it works

Great recycling center.

The can/bottle crusher will last forever!
