A friend asked if I could build him two Bluebird houses, or nesting boxes. I did not know anything about Bluebirds, or their preferences in housing, however the internet has a lot to offer on the subject. I found a simple enough design. Apparently, Bluebirds like rather small, close quarters with a rather small entry door. The plan I found online offered ventilation thru the four bottom corners and two holes near the top of each side. Removing a single screw at the bottom right of the front panel allows the right side panel to swing open for cleaning/removal of old nesting materials. Material is Southern Yellow Pine assembled with butt joints and wood screws. I left the sanding and finishing for the new owner. Hope the Bluebirds like them :-)

Greats job on your boxes and learning about bluebirds and what they like. I’ve been doing the bluebird thing for a while now and I use this web site that is perfect for learning about our Beautiful American Bluebirds.
Nice work!
Enjoy!

Woodshaver – Thanks for the link – wow there is a alot of information there. These boxes were a trial run of sorts. My 11 year old grand daughter has to make a bird house as a school project. So I am going to cut out panels for two more boxes and one evening have her and her little brother come over and we will assemble them. I plan to predrill to panels to facilitate nailing the boxes together. Thanks for the comments and the link. – Ed

These are very interesting and I’m sure that the bluebirds will enjoy their ne homes.
