I’ve been wanting to build one of these for some time to police up cell phone charging cables for a family of five. I have to give credit to Lumberjock BillG who gave me the idea for the external power switch from his similar project a short time ago – thanks Bill. I like the idea of turning off the entire power strip when nothing is being charged. I cannabalized a computer power cable and got a few parts from RadioShack to wire it up safely. I added a removable box on the inside to house the electrical/switch wires.
The wood is walnut and curly maple. When I was trimming the miter keys I inadvertantly chipped one, so I had to chamfer the corners to hide the error. Was also my first time using hinges on a box like this – never thought two small hinges would be so challenging. Some other minor problems, but no show-stoppers. Used 5 coats of wipe-on poly to finish.

Very nice. I will be making one myself this summer except it will hang on the wall directly over an outlet. So no “box to wall” cords.

looks good, real neat and clean. I recently tryed hinges and had the same thoght. The flipping story stick shure worked well to set up the router table for dapping the hinges.
