Old dog Ramp

Well the Old dog is 16 and going to the park with the other Border Collie that is 8 is very necessary. But jumping into the Trail Blazer is getting harder. Out of the truck is a 16 inch jump down. Not such a problem. After some thought and checking a few plans… there are not too many… I came up with my design. I used a 1×12 pine 39 inches long. and some 2×2 in pressure wood I had extra. The small 3/4 strips were glued on about 6 inches apart and a bottom 2×2 screwed on. Now the frame needed to swivel on a center 2×2 that I set off center and mounted the pivot screws loose. I marked the high side to be the side toward the pine board. The picture with my arm was finding the test position for the frame to the end block for the frame to rotate. It was about a 3/8 gap. What I learned was that the curves I had cut needed to face the end block not toward the length of the board as I thought when I planned this ramp. I used 5 long screws into each 2×2 to really secure them as the dog is 50 pounds and the frame angle takes a lot of stress. In the dog learning curve, I take her by the collar and walk her up onto the ramp and into the floor area. Each time is getting better but I doubt she will do it on her own. Old dog new tricks, no just old dog going safely into the truck. It could be improved and I am checking on the stress on the frame after 3 days now. It folds easy and takes little room behind the driver seat.

Very nice. Right now we have a growing pup that isn’t quite ready to jump into our Jeep and a 10 year old that needs a boost. This looks like a practical solution

Great job – all of our 4 legged friends need a little bit of extra help as they age.
