french cleat to hold pictures

I’ve been enjoying the french cleat system for tool storage so much that I’ve started using it for pictures too. A pair of oak vertical “legs” support four horizontal walnut cleats. The structure rests on the floor, with room to accommodate the molding, and is anchored to the wall at the top and bottom of each “leg”. A socket cap screw counterbored into the back of the vertical pieces connects to a 1/4”-20 brass threaded insert in back of each cleat.

This is the first project I’ve gotten a scrapper to give nice results on, which is very exciting. I hate sanding.

Sanding?....everybody loves sanding even our lungs look forward to it!

Your proiject looks great… good work!

Speaking od sanding again,I would not want to be the person cleaning and dusting off the items though!

What a unique and innovative use of the French cleat system. I like how it looks!

This is a very nice collection of pictures and I think that the hanging system adds to rather than subtract from the total project. You did a nice job on it.

This is pretty cool. I can picture something like this over my fireplace. Kind of an art project holding art.

Very good idea – you can always change and rearange layout of pictures and photos.
