I have always wanted to try one of these boxes , however due to costs and time i decided to skip the inlay and secret compartments , i plan to build two more though. The panel is veneered birdseye maple , i have done some veneer work before but the fragility of the birds eye surprised me. I would have a picture of the drawers but i used an old bottle of titebond that had previously frozen and all of the joints in the drawers blew apart… next time ill do dovetail drawers. I used one coat of danish oil , 4 coats of arm r seal and buffed with wax.

Ahhhhhh, the all too famous frozen glue hazzard. Been there, done that…......greetings from Wisconsin.

Your birds-eye maple looks incredible with this project. Well done.

Nice! And I LOVE that bird’s eye maple. I have a large piece of veneer I bought awhile back, just because it was so purdy. I should do something with it before it gets broken. Still working down the honey-do list from retirement, though.

Wow! This is a beautiful piece that is full of details and fine craftsmanship. It looks almost like an original piece.
