Had some time in the last few weeks, enough that I could go and mess with my favorite tool, the wood lathe. First Project is a scrap piece of walnut from work turned into a potpourri dish. The green glass top is a candle protector. I have an earlier project that explains about these great cheap lids. The walnut has a streak of white on the bottom and it was a lot of fun to make. The eggs are different colors of the scrap woods that we used to make gun stocks. It is birch wood, the plys all run the same direction and turn easily with the grain. As you can see they finish up well. All projects are finished with a sprayed conversion varnish about 20 sheen, and are very smooth. Hope you enjoyed viewing.

I like your use of the colorwood – really looks like a fun material to turn. Also the unique lids you have found are interesting – may have to experiment with these and keep my eyes open for non-wood ideas.

Great looking collection. I really like the potpourri dish. I remember (now) your posting on the lid. Thanks for the reminder. Great group of eggs. Still haven’t tried one of those yet.

Looking forward to many more of your beautiful projects.

Keep it up.

-- Scrap Wood's the best...the projects are smaller, and so is the mess!
