Five ship wheels were made in the last six or seven years.
The first is fitted with a tile I found in the Show Bag of Woodturn 2004, a bi-yearly woodturning two day demonstration in Sydney which I had attended. The timber is tassie oak, 600mm dia, including rays.
I found strong relationship between the wheel and the slogan of “Make a good turn for your life…Join us” which we use to recruit new members to our guild.
The second is fitted with a clock, made of camphor laurel, 450mm dia
The third is fitted with a clock, made of jarrah, 450mm dia.
The fourth and fifth are fitted with tiles of sailing ship scenes and made of variety of timbers. Both are 600mm dia.
and a part of the Irish Prayer ” MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK….BON VOYAGE ” is writen in the big rings.

Great wheels Sam. I have been thinking of turning one myself for years now, but haven’t yet gotten around to it. I especially like the ones with the words. Very nice work.
