This is a reporter’s flip-top notepad made out of poplar for a friend’s birthday present. The pencil, hand-planed to the correct shape, features four hidden nails that reinforce the front and back covers. The writing and lines are wood-burned on.

Working with poplar was an interesting experience. It warped every time i heated to transfer the woodburning design, and anytime glue came in contact with it. Thankfully, the warping added to the “paper” aesthetic of the notepad, so I didn’t do much to try and correct. I’ll know for other projects, nevertheless.
