Whitewashed Queen Bed

I just finished a Queen bed for our guest room. Everything is made of pine that I got from the Amish here in Michigan. We wanted a rustic farmhouse look, so I decided not to plane it and start with 220 grit and work my way to 400. This allowed me to remove less material and keep some of the saw marks from the mill.

My wife wanted a whitewashed look, after some trial boards, I decided to stain the whole bed with a Minwax Dark Walnut. I then applied a Minwax Whitewash or Pickling that I slightly tinted. It was then finished with a natural furniture wax.

The side boards are connected to the head and foot boards by hanger bolts that I picked up at Rockler. Other than that, I tried not to use any other hardware, the caps on the head and foot board are attached with dowels. I like the look you get from using dowels as well.

Overall, we are happy with how it turned out.

I like the saw mark effect.
I also really like the coloring you have chosen.
Thanks for sharing this project.
