Been tied up with work and a large workshop build so I haven’t posted for a while. These pens were all gifts for others.
The first two had accent elements made from a neat composite called WebbWood™. I was given some samples of this engineered wood/plastic composite (WebbWood™) to play around with. The deal was I would make a piece or two with these samples and send the manufacturer back a few photos that they could use as testimonials about their product. It worked well and the pens came up real nice. So, what I came up with was a traditional looking pen stock, which is Curly Katalox, a very dense exotic species and I made a 6 segment ring of the rainbow product so only the thin side grain could be seen from its perimeter. I inlaid two pieces of brass as accents between the Katalox and the rainbow piece and angle cut those at 15˚. Finished with Beall buffing system.
The pen set was a his and hers wedding gift. I intertwined two thick brass sheets to form interlocking rings ala the celtic knot. The pens are Cocobolo and I made the “his” pen a little thicker than the more elegant and lady-like “her” pen.
