Here are some simple floating shelves made with Ash, Baltic birch ply, and some scrap poplar for the wall frame, hidden structure.

They are basically a 3 sided mitered corner box with the ply rabbeted in to the top and bottom. The frames are a snug fit and the arms go about 80% of the depth of the shelve. They are stained with two coats of GF “County Pine” and three coats of GF Arm-R-Seal, Satin. The actual build was really quick and easy, the finish took about four days to apply a coat and wait 12+ hours due to lower than ideal temps. The wife was a happy customer, though I doubt she’ll actually pay the bill, she didn’t even let me finish hanging them before the birdhouses went up…
