Model biplane

Just a few hours in the workshop and endless smiles from my son as he played with his wooden model biplane that he helped me build. I used a bit of curtain rail, 8 dowels, 4 washers, a Lego man pilot, a few screws and some plywood – all of which I had in my workshop already.

I researched a few pictures just to get basic proportions but was quite lucky as I just put it together as a first fit and it seemed to work ok. My 3 daughters immediately wanted one each, but colours needed to be pink, red and green (I think!) – I had the idea of making a few more and putting together kits for kids to build. We do a Santa shoebox project here in Johannesburg and maybe this Christmas I will make 10 for some needy kids to go in their boxes.

Now that I remember it – my son had actually been asking “Daddy can we make a plane?” – I was going “yes boy, yes boy” and eventually I thought yes lets just do this and see what we come out with. Really pleased with the result and really pleased I took the few hours out for quality time with my son!
