I built this project a year ago but had been promising the kids to do it since we moved here in 2012! It started out as just the upper level but we added the lower level midway and it really improved the outcome. Plus it made the ladder into 2 stages thus much safer as less distance to fall!

I redid the steps and the upper deck railings – I feel strongly one must be flexible as you go through projects; you only really get a sense of what works once you experience the physical outcome and space it occupies as you make progress. Sticking too rigidly to a design may limit making these valuable enhancements.

i also did a video blog of the 7 day project which featured my 5 kids quite a lot – they were all quite active. the older ones helping out with basic tools and the younger ones doing some sanding and painting. unfortunately one major lesson was that I should have treated the top deck as soon as it was finished – although i covered everything each night we had some rains before i finished and the top deck will need resurfacing at some point.

the kids have loads of fun on this treehouse and there is a perfect spot above the top deck for a “crows-nest” platform which I may add at some point – depends on other projects that come onto the backlog!!! ;-)

Looks awesome! I need to get this done for my kids as well! Did you use treated lumber or cedar for it?
