I have been told you are a woodworker.. so make a work bench. I really needed something with a solid top to get some things done and my previous work space always seemed to get crowded and cluttered. I build the top out of hard maple laminated together and the trim is purpleheard. I have two vises to hold work and the base is made of pine. The whole thing can be taken apart so that if we move the bench can go with me. I am currently working on a cabinet for the bottom to provide me storage for tools and materials. I went to a lecture at my local woodworker’s guild in Dec 06 which gave me alot of ideas and the push to get this project done. Note the corner on the right.. I dropped the top on my toe (OUCH!) That think taught me two lessons.. one how to begin to repair your mistakes and second wear steel toed shoes.

Doc, you should not do any work on that beautiful top. Use it in the dining room :-)). It’s really beautiful. You might want to be careful with your tongue sticking out like that – I’ve heard that tongue lacerations can be quite painful :-)).
Welcome to Lumber Jocks – I think that you find this a great place to share your hobby and gather great ideas.

Nice work bench top, why did you choose pine for the base?

thanks everyone
Snowdog – bottom line – I choose pine because of cost and could always change the base later if I become unhappy with it.
